Pipe Bags & PipesSmoking has become a universal habit, but the Indians of North America were the ones who originally discovered the almost magical properties of tobacco. For them, a puff of smoke was a prayer floating up to the heavens. Smoking was a way of communicating with the Great Spirit and was used for ceremonial purposes at sweat ceremonies and during negotiations to ensure that "no lies were told."  Pipes and Pipe Bags Pipes assumed, therefore, an almost religious significance and the bags that were used to carry them were adorned with pride in the same way Christian artifacts are stored in decorated casks.
