Featuring Native American Arts

You can find so-called Native American crafts in tourist traps across the west, but all too often when you look at the label, you'll discover the beadwork was done by non-Indians in China or Mexico. Authentic Indian artwork is still being made on the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming. Here members of the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone tribes practice the crafts of their ancestors handed down from centuries past.

  • They sew leather bags, shirts, moccasins and amulets out of the hand-tanned, wood-smoked hides of locally harvested elk, moose, and deer.
  • They bead intricate designs to adorn their work - beadwork that symbolizes everything from the circle of life to stories about past battles and bison hunts.
  • They create handmade drums from rawhide and wood; drums that are said to be the heart beat of the Indian people.

Ancient Ways specializes in these kind of traditional Native American products. We know the artists and we know their work, so you can be sure that the artwork we carry is rooted in tradition and created with pride.
